Brielle’s Cake Smash

This here was our weekend project!  Brie turned 1 year old last month and we celebrated with a Woodland Creature-themed party HERE!  It was such a busy time with the holidays, so we finally came around to doing her Cake Smash this weekend!

We wanted to try making a beautiful ombré rosette cake!  I used the “Betty Crocker Super Moist Cherry Chip Cake Mix” and the “Wilton Easy Layers 5 Piece Cake Pan Set”.  The cherry chip cake mix is cute since you get tiny flecks of red in the batter which was perfect since we were going for a pink ombré effect with the icing.  The five little pans in the cake set also make it easy to get 5 layers!  I used this Swiss Meringue Buttercream recipe HERE and Ryan created five different shades of pink with gel icing for each layer of rosettes while keeping the inside icing between the layers white (see the cross-section picture above).  This icing is SO DELICIOUS and light!  I think Ryan did such a great job with the shading and the piping!  We followed this very helpful YouTube tutorial HERE by Cake Style if you’re interested in making this cake too!

Brielle was unsure about this cake at first but later really dug into it as you can see!  In the end she did not like the feeling of the sticky icing all over her hands and she demanded that we clean her up!  She stayed surprisingly clean throughout it all!  Can’t believe our precious girl is 1 year old now and so full of personality ❤

We’re glad that we could create such a pretty cake for her, even though it was for her to smash 😛  It made a beautiful mess, and the other side was still edible- you can imagine that big sister Myla wanted in on some of this delicious cake!
