Hi Lorraine! There are many factors to consider when determining size, including what yarn you’re using, what size crochet hook, your gauge and tension, etc. If you are using a chunky yarn and a large hook (as I did in this blog post), the finished blanket sweater has the potential to stretch A LOT! It also depends if the person wants to wear it more fitted or more baggy/loose, and where they want the finished sweater to hang (below the bum, as a small shrug, etc). I myself had to frog my initial project as it turned out too big! I think your numbers could sound alright- keep crocheting, and just keep in mind that if it is coming out too large for your liking, be prepared to frog your work! Crocheting garments can be tricky with sizing!
