I am wondering what would be the best way to make the mittens shorter. They look nice and the width is good but they are very long. Am I crocheting too loose? Should I use a smaller hook?

I am working up these mittens now. Having never tried crochet cables, or mittens, I’m finding it very easy. Here’s to your great tutorial! I have a question though. I found that my mitten is kind of bowed. Where the cabled side is a bit shorter than the palm side. Did this happen to you? Or is my tension on the cables too tight? Did you block these?
