Homespun Cowl

Recently I blogged about my “Cozy Crochet Mittens” using Lion Brand Yarn’s “Homespun”, and it’s been wonderful seeing the mittens that you’ve made!  I wanted to make my mom a matching cowl and mitten set, so I used the same Homespun yarn in the colour “Shaker” to crochet this cowl pictured above!  I used my “Long Double Crochet Cowl” pattern by chaining 27 in the beginning with a 6 mm hook.  With one skein of Homespun, I got about 56 rows.

This cowl has a mesh, net-like look to it, and my mom loves how it drapes and hangs.  This lightweight, airy cowl can be wrapped twice around the neck, and using the Homespun yarn means that it is also very soft and fuzzy!  I wanted to share this Homespun cowl idea with you since I know many of you mentioned that you had Homespun yarn in your stash that you didn’t know what to do with.  If you have difficulty identifying the individual stitches when working with Homespun yarn, this is a great pattern to follow since you are working in the chain spaces, so you don’t need to know where the stitches are!  It works up very quickly, and the resulting texture is beautiful.  Matching mittens and cowls are a great gift idea as well 🙂  See my “Cozy Crochet Mittens” post HERE and my “Long Double Crochet Cowl” post HERE!  Have fun putting that Homespun yarn to good use!
